Remembering David McLean

It is with profound sadness that we learn of the recent passing of David McLean, OBC, LLD ’94.

As a dedicated philanthropist and champion of the arts, David and his family have made an impact on disciplines across the Faculty of Arts. Their generosity is felt through the Brenda McLean Family Endowment for Creative and Performing Arts, the David and Brenda McLean Family Endowment for the University Singers, and the David and Brenda McLean Family Chair in Canadian Studies. The family’s foresight in establishing these endowments has greatly advanced scholarship and research, particularly in fostering interdisciplinary knowledge of Canadian culture, geography, history, politics and economics. We are deeply grateful to have been a beneficiary of David’s visionary philanthropy, and we are honoured to continue the legacy of the McLean family in the Faculty of Arts. We join President Benoit-Antoine Bacon in extending our deepest condolences to the McLean family.

Dr. Clare Haru Crowston
Dean, Faculty of Arts
