Meet Morgan Sillers: Interning to end cancer

Name:

Morgan Sillers

Major and year at the time of internship:

Second year of Arts: Sociology & Psychology

Internship position title and organization:

Revenue Development Intern at The Canadian Cancer Society

Why did you apply for an Arts Internship?

To get ‘real world’ work experience, without prolonging my degree.

Tell us about your internship? What were your responsibilities? What did you like about it?

During my time at the Canadian Cancer Society I was responsible for compiling contact information for possible institutions to contribute financially to the cause. In addition, I was responsible for the organization and distribution of the April Door to Door campaign for the Greater Vancouver area. In the later portion of my internship, I was trained on the financial depositing program. So I was responsible for depositing credit cards, cheques and monies into the appropriate campaign accounts.

What did you get out of the experience? How does it fit in with your future career plans?

Out of the Art Internship Program I learned a great deal about myself. I realized what I am capable of, and how my specific skills can translate into a profession. And while I do not know exactly what I want to do with my life at this point, I have discovered some of the things that I should be looking for in a work environment and only some of the things that I can contribute.
