What if Sleeping Beauty was a vampire? Is Twilight just Beauty and the Beast in disguise? Can vampires have a happily ever after?

Vampires share many of the same cultural, literary, and folkloric roots as fairy tales but in contemporary representation they are usually associated with distinctive characteristics – vampires are blood-sucking villains who come out at night while fairy tale characters are heroes on a quest for happiness, love, and romance. This talk explores the intersections of fairy tales and vampires, in particular the ways that vampires appear in fairy tales and how and why fairy tale motifs are used in contemporary vampire popular culture.
