The Centre for Student Involvement and Careers, in partnership with the UBC Hub of Ten Thousand Coffees, is excited to bring you a virtual mentorship and networking opportunity to connect with UBC alumna, Tamara Osseiran. This event is open to all students and alumni, who will be given the opportunity to ask questions.
How I Broke Into Product Design Without a UX Background
Tamara is a product designer, strategist, and declutterer, passionate about strategy-based-design and bringing order to complex systems. After graduating in 2019, Tamara worked steadily in the industry before eventually becoming a Product Designer at Yahoo! working on building the native experience for Yahoo Finance apps. Previous to that, she led the design efforts at Circuit Stream as a User Experience Designer, working on various projects related to spatial and immersive technology.
Tamara is a Lebanese-native, who grew up in Saudi Arabia, before heading to Vancouver to complete her Bachelor’s degree at UBC. Though she has a preference for milder and cooler climates, these days you can find her eating some BBQ and enjoying local live music in sunny Austin, Texas.
While pursuing her Bachelor of Media Studies degree at UBC, Tamara was curating her degree and university experience towards a career in marketing. However, during her final year, she decided to make a last-minute pivot into UX Design. In Tamara’s Office Hour, she will be sharing her experience of what it takes to be a self-taught designer and the tips and tricks needed to break into the industry with no formal background in design.
Attending an Office Hour is an excellent opportunity for you to expand your network and participate in an open, round-table discussion with alumni.
