The Department of Sociology in the Faculty of Arts at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver campus invites applications for a tenure-stream faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track), with anticipated start date of July 1, 2025. The substantive area of specialization for this position is Family Sociology.
An ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching in the area of family sociology and/or family science and will help to strengthen our global reputation. We expect applicants to have a Ph.D. in sociology or related field with a strong background in sociology at the time of appointment but applicants who have progressed to the point where completion of the Ph.D. is imminent and who demonstrate clear and superior promise of excellence in research will also be considered. We ask interested individuals to be prepared to submit the following: (1) a CV; (2) a cover letter describing their interest in the position as well as a description of their research and teaching record and future plans; (3) a one-page statement identifying the applicant’s contributions, or potential contributions, to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and to furthering Indigenous priorities, along with their ability to work with a culturally diverse and international student body; (4) a research statement; (5) two sample publications; and (6) a teaching portfolio which must include a statement of teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student evaluations, peer assessments of teaching, sample graduate and/or undergraduate course syllabi). In addition, applicants must provide contact details of three referees. Confidential reference letters will be requested at the long list stage.
Review of complete applications will begin on September 16, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled. This position is subject to final budgetary approval. The expected pay range over a 12-month period for an Assistant Professor is $9,442 – $10,730/month. Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
