Arts Academic Advising

Summary of your role:
I provide systems, policy and curriculum support to Arts Academic Advising.

BRAINS BEHIND THE WORK

What is a project or work achievement you are most proud of? Why?

Two things!

1) I am the primary Academic Advisor for the UBC SciencesPo Dual Degree program, a program where students earn two BA degrees in 4 years having spent 2 of them in France, and 2 of them here at UBC. I am so proud UBC’s international partnership we have with SciencesPo, the cross-cultural learning our students engage in and our focus on global issues and equity. These students care about the world and the people in it and use their training and knowledge to create solutions for a better future!

2) Shouting Jennifer Suratos back out for founding the Arts Staff Choir this year and appointing me the musical director! So proud of how far this “hobby group” has come – we had a performance on campus this summer and we promise it will not be our last! Come one, come all – we’re always looking for singers!

WELLNESS THAT WORKS FOR YOU

How do you like to recharge?

When I’m not working, I’m usually working OUT, playing volleyball, singing/playing piano or cooking my family a nice meal. While I am grateful for my amazing job at UBC and the people I work with, I am also fiercely passionate about balancing my full-time employment with my other passions, interests and priorities. As much as I love my work, I know I am more than my job!

WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE

What trait do you admire most in your colleagues?

I work on a highly competent and intelligent team of Academic Advisors/Academic Systems specialists. One trait we all share is a strong sense of accountability and integrity in our work with the systems, tools and policies used by all stakeholders in the Faculty of Arts. We understand that every ounce of effort we put into making sure a system works, or that a policy is equitably enforced contributes to the learning and wellbeing of students in the Faculty.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

The Faculty of Arts has been my home since I attended UBC as a Bachelor of Music student. I am so privileged to be able to learn and work on the UBC campus, that is located on the unceded, ancestral and traditional territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) people.
