Opening Reception of David Wojnarowicz: Photography & Film 1978-92

Jan 9 | 6-9pm | Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery

David Wojnarowicz (1954–1992) came into prominence in the New York art world of the 1980s, embracing all media and forging an expansive range of work both fiercely political and highly personal. This is the first exhibition to solely concentrate on the artist’s photographic and film work. It presents over 100 works including photographs, test prints, silkscreens, 16 mm and Super 8 film and collaborative video works.

Student Leadership Conference

As one of the largest student-run conferences in Canada, UBC’s Student Leadership Conference (SLC) is an opportunity for students to explore their abilities, a hub for amazing individuals in the community, and a platform that inspires action. This year’s theme “(un)filtered” challenges delegates to deconstruct the “filters” that shape communities and narratives, as well as those that are self-imposed.

UBC Concerto Competition

Open to all music students, the annual concerto competition is an opportunity for young musicians to earn a coveted spot as a solo performer with the UBC Symphony Orchestra. Competitors select virtuoso works which highlight their exceptional technical and expressive abilities as musicians.

Urban Climate Justice Workshop

Curious about what Urban Climate Justice means? Interested in how Nature’s Rights play a role in climate justice? Want to discuss the history of human-nature relationships and how this history is connected to climate justice? The Fruitful Dark of Winter

Join Celeste Snowber for a walking performance of dance and poetry out of the winter season. Whether it is the living bouquet of the fragrance of Chimonanthus or the light on paperbark maples, winter holds delights as we walk into wonder. Enjoy a blend of art and ecology in this creative garden performance as Celeste interprets the Garden’s unique botanical collection through a poetic and performative lens.

Students from UBC Theatre and Film Acting and Film Production come together to create something especially audacious: a new feature film developed collectively from scratch and stripped of all cinematic artifice inspired by Lars von Trier’s Dogme 95 Manifesto.
